Famous Oatmeal Cookies

3/4 cup shortening 1 cup flour 1 cup brown sugar 1 tsp. salt 1/2 white sugar 1/2 soda 1 egg 2 1/4 cups oats 1/4 cup water 1 cup coconut 1 tsp. vanilla 1 cup Millican Pecan Halves Cream shortening and sugars together, then add egg, water and vanilla. Beat well. Add dry ingredients, coconut and pecans, beat until all ingredients are mixed together good. Drop a teaspoonful on a ungreased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes. ** You can use 1 cup raisins instead of the coconut; if you do, use 3 cups oatmeal instead of 2 1/4.
